You probably already know the importance of taking care of your beard. You can’t just let it go wild and hope for the best. That’s why we’re talking about beard oil today. Beard oil makes your beard look great while ensuring it’s not dry or brittle. It helps keep everything in check so that you don’t have to worry about any stray hairs poking out or your beard feeling dry! But how often should you use this stuff?
A general rule of thumb is to use beard oil once a day, right after you shower; however, this is not always the case. If you want to learn more about how often you should use beard oil based on your beard type and other factors, keep reading.
So, How Often Should You Use Beard Oil?
As I told you, while using beard oil once per day is a safe bet, if you want to get the most out of your oil (and your beard), there are a few things to keep in mind.
1. Your beard length
How long is your beard? Is it still short, or has it filled out and become more of a medium-sized beard? If you have a shorter beard, like a medium or heavy stubble, we recommend applying beard oil once every day. If your beard is longer than that, we recommend using it twice a day.
2. Your beard and skin type
Do you have dry skin or a dry beard? If so, you should apply beard oil at least once a day, no matter how long your beard is. Doing this will not only moisturize your beard and skin but also prevent the dreaded beard dandruff. If your skin and hair are normal, you should apply it once a day if you have a short beard and twice a day if you have a longer beard.
If your skin or hair is oily, you should apply beard oil ONLY twice to three times per week, no matter how long your beard is.
You should test yourself and see what works for you. If you apply beard oil daily and your skin feels too oily, you should back it down to every other day. If your facial hair gets dry, you can use the beard oil more often until it stops feeling dry. Every man has different needs, and you need to test a bit to find what works for you.
If you live in a dry climate, your facial hair will need beard oil more often. If it’s cold or windy outside, that also means that your skin is more likely to get dry and flaky. You should apply beard oil at least twice daily (once in the morning and once before bed) if you live in an area with a climate like that.
4. Beard oil ingredients
There are many different kinds of premium beard oils on the market today, and they all work differently. The first thing you should check is the viscosity of the carrier oils your beard oil contains. If it’s a thin oil, it will get absorbed more easily into the skin, so you should use it a little bit more often. On the other hand, if it’s a thicker oil, you should apply it less often because it’ll get absorbed slowly and last longer. You should find the best organic beard oils because you don’t want to put on your face any chemicals and artificial fragrances most skincare products contain.
How Much Beard Oil Should I Use?
It all depends on the length of your facial hair, but we recommend using between two to five drops of oil per application. You should coat your whole beard and then gently massage your face a little bit to make sure that the oil gets spread out evenly.
You should not have an oily face after applying it! The oil should just give you a nice shine. If your face is feeling greasy, then you’re using too much oil.
Do not use too much or else your beard will feel gross and look greasy all day long!
When Should You Apply Beard Oil?
If you use beard oil once a day or less the best time to apply it is right after you shower. The heat from the steam opens up your pores makes your facial hair soft and lets the beard oil get in there easier. If you apply beard oil more often than that, then we recommend using it twice a day once in the morning and once before bed.
Do Beard Oils Promote Hair Growth?
Beard oils don’t help your beard grow faster or thicker. Quality beard oils are used to moisturize the skin under your beard so that you have a healthy-looking beard, but if you really want a long beard, then you should eat right and exercise to get it!
If you are struggling to grow out your beard, then you try minoxidil or micro-needling. Minoxidil is a topical solution that you just put on your face and it can help your beard grow thicker and faster. Microneedling is a treatment that you do every few days. You take a derma roller with hundreds of tiny needles and roll it over your face. This treatment can be a bit painful if not done right but derma roller can make your beard grow thicker!
You should leave the oil in your beard for at least two hours so that it has time to absorb into your skin. To be honest, you don’t have to wash your beard after you apply the oil, but if you want to, you should wait for at least two hours to give it time to absorb and unleash its full potential.
If you feel like your beard hair is very oily and greasy after two hours, then you can wash it out with beard wash or soap.
Can I Use Too Much Beard Oil?
Yes, it is possible for beard oils to have too much of the good thing. If you have an oily face after applying the product, then you are using too much. You should only be putting two to five drops on your fingertips and massaging them into your skin.
If you’re starting out with a new brand of oil, then we recommend trying out three to four drops in the beginning and then seeing how your skin feels after a few days. If you continue to feel oily, then use less of it!
Using beard oil too much will not only make your face look greasy but can also clog up your pores and lead to acne!
That’s all you need to know about beard oils and how they are used! When you’re looking for beard oil, the important thing to remember is that it should be used often. You can’t just use a little bit of product and then forget about using it anymore because it will leave your skin dry, irritated, and flaky. So, find the right timing that works for you, and make sure not to forget to use your oil!
